Unashamed Reading Plan | Week 5 | Day 2
Prayer
Allow some silence for your soul to catch up with your body. Thank God for time to spend with Him and ask Him to meet with you.
Bible Reading: Romans 6:11-14
Read these verses three times slowly.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Reflection & Questions
Yesterday, we read of the lengths Jesus went to free us from sin and unite us with Him forever. The question then is what are we going to do with this new freedom? Paul says, “Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body… but rather offer yourselves to God.”
The truth is sin is attractive. It lures us in. And daily we face the temptations. So daily, we’re to offer ourselves to God. “Offer every part of yourself,” Paul says. Our words, our actions; our minds and hearts; our home lives and our work lives. Offer every part of ourselves to God to be used by God. Each day, lay down your life to God and ask Him to use you.
The beauty is we don’t make this offer in fear. For we “are not under the law, but under grace.” To be under law, is to feel like we are being constantly watched, with the law just waiting to catch us out. To be under grace, means that if we fall down, Jesus will dust us off, forgive and ready to work through us again. To be under grace means He’s FOR us and He DELIGHTS in us. There’s a freedom to live with a true purpose for Someone who loves us!
- What differences would it make to offer yourself to God in fear or in freedom?
- Reflect on different areas of your life and ask are you offering yourself to sin or to God? How do you know?
Prayer
Talk to God in response to today’s reading.

Reflection & Questions
Yesterday we read about how Jesus went all the way to death on the cross to free us from sin and to unite us with Him forever. So what are we going to do with this freedom? We already know that we shouldn’t go on with sinning on purpose. That’s part of our scripture for today: “do not let sin reign in your mortal body… but rather offer yourselves to God.”
The truth is sin is attractive. Sin is very persuasive and likes to lure us into doing the wrong thing. We face temptations to sin everyday! So everyday we are to offer ourselves to God. Every part of us: our words, our actions; our minds and hearts; our lives at home and our lives at school. Offer every part of ourselves to God to be used by God.
When we make this offer back to God, we don’t have to be afraid. We “are not under the law, but under grace.” To be “under the law” is to feel like we are constantly being watched with the law just waiting to catch us and call us out. To be “under grace” means that if we fall down and sin, Jesus will pick us up, dust us off, forgive us and is ready to work through us again. To be under grace means He’s FOR us and He DELIGHTS in us. That’s a good feeling, right?
- What are some actions you can do to be used by God for good things? Can you think of a way you can use each of the following: your words, actions, mind, heart, at home, and in school?
Pray
Thank God for the gift of forgiveness. Ask Him to help you find ways that you can honor Him EVERYday!
