Unashamed Reading Plan | Week 6 | Day 2
Prayer
Allow some silence for your soul to catch up with your body. Thank God for time to spend with Him and ask Him to meet with you.
Bible Reading: Romans 6:19-23
Read these verses three times slowly.
I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Reflection & Questions
When someone makes an investment with something, they do so hoping for a good return. We invest financially in a 401k hoping the interest will grow. A farmer invests time in planting, fertilizing and harvesting, for the hope of a bumper crop.
In today’s verses, Paul asks us to consider the results of our investment of our time, talent and treasure. When we invested those in sin, what results did we get? When we invest them in the ways of God, what are the results?
Paul asks: “What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!” Sin has a pay out, and it’s big: death. The fruit of following Jesus “the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.”
The choice is clear. Where will we invest our time, talent and treasure?
- What fruit have you seen in your life because of sin? How has God freed you from that?
- How can you invest your time, talent and treasure in following Jesus today? Ask Him to guide you.
Prayer
Talk to God in response to today’s reading.

Reflection & Questions
When someone makes an investment with something, they do so hoping that they will get back more than they put in. That’s called a “good return.” A farmer invests time in planting, fertilizing, and harvesting hoping that they will get a huge crop. A basketball player invests time in practicing their dribbling, shooting, and passing, hoping that they will get more playing time and make more points.
In today’s verses, Paul asks us to consider what happens when we invest our time, talents, and treasure. When we invest all of those in sin, what results will we get? Wen we invest them in the ways of God, what are the results?
Paul asks: “What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!” Sin has a return in investment, but it’s not a very good one: death! The result of following Jesus: “the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.”
The choice is clear: Where will we invest our time, talents, and treasure?
- How can you invest your time, talents, and treasure in following Jesus today?
Pray
Ask God to show you ways that you can spend your time, talents, and treasure in obedience to Him.
