Unashamed Reading Plan | Week 9 | Day 2
Prayer
Allow some silence for your soul to catch up with your body. Thank God for time to spend with Him and ask Him to meet with you.
Bible Reading: Romans 8:26-27
Read these verses three times slowly.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Reflection & Questions
By Ken Mullette
David Beckham is an English football (soccer) player who gained international fame for his on-field play and his highly publicized personal life. Yet, most people are unaware of David’s humanitarian efforts to protect wildlife, fight disease, and end poverty through multiple foundations. David helps people all around the world in their most difficult moments. Though people like David Beckham do a lot to help others, there are limits.
In this passage, Paul explains that there is spiritual help available. He describes this help as coming from the “Spirit,” which refers to the Holy Spirit’s presence working in our lives. The Spirit understands our feelings even when we can’t put them into words. He helps us by interceding—essentially, the Spirit steps in to communicate our needs and concerns to God on our behalf.
That is amazing to think about. The idea is that even when we’re overwhelmed or unsure of how to ask for help, there is a ‘divine support system’ that understands and helps us with our unspoken needs.
- How does the idea of the Holy Spirit interceding on our behalf influence your understanding of seeking support during difficult times?
- How might the reassurance of the Holy Spirit’s intercession impact your sense of peace and comfort?

Reflection & Questions
Have you ever had something so terrible happen that all you could do was just groan out loud? Maybe you were told some really bad news or got a big and painful injury. Maybe you lost something very important or deleted a project you had been working really hard on.
Sometimes it’s difficult to come up with words for the big feelings we have, even as adults! We can feel very sad and heavy or get really down or super anxious and cannot find the right words to say how we feel. That’s where the Holy Spirit comes in and does some “translating” for us.
The Holy Spirit has the ability to understand our moaning and groanings and can communicate them to God for us. How great is that? When you are feeling overwhelmed and think that you can’t even talk to God about what’s going on, just know that the Holy Spirit can! He can take your feelings and get them delivered to God for you.
- Have you ever had such big feelings that you didn’t know how to express them to someone?
Pray
Thank God for giving you a translator in the Holy Spirit!
