1 Thessalonians Reading | Week 3 | Day 5
Prayer
As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Thank Jesus that he came to save you!
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-28
Read these verses three times slowly.
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
Brothers and sisters, pray for us. Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss. I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Reflection & Questions
In his sign off to the Thessalonians, Paul again says a prayer for them. How encouraging this must have been for them to read! He is asking God to prepare them for the Lord’s return. He wants them to be sanctified “through and through.” He prays that not one part of them would be left untouched by the transformational touch of God. That they would become just like Jesus from head to toe. He wants their “whole spirit, soul and body” to be “blameless” at Jesus’ return. And this isn’t something that they are to be worried about. Whether they will be sufficiently holy or not. For “the one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” Praise God! For those who are “God’s people,” He will answer this prayer! He will never stop working on us, transforming us to be like Jesus and He will make sure we are ready for the return of our Lord.
- What words or phrases in these verses encourage you today? Why?
- Why do you think Paul ends many of his letters “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you”?
