Meet Our Pastors

Brian Hunt

Lead Pastor

Five ways to describe him

Christ Follower, Husband, Daddy, Athlete, Aspiring Jelly Belly Taste Tester

What he does for Crossroads Grace

Brian is the Lead Pastor and Visionary for Crossroads. He is the primary communicator and is passionate about seeing people apply their faith in their daily lives while seeking to win the next generation to Christ.

Family

“I am incredibly blessed to be the husband to Cherie, daddy to my daughter Aniston and son Easton. I was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota and also lived in the Chicago Area for 13 years before moving to California. I still have family in both South Dakota and Minnesota, but hopefully I can convince them to say goodbye to snow and hello to sunshine soon.”

What makes him laugh

I love sarcasm and dry humor. Also anything my kids do will make me laugh, but when my wife starts to laugh I’m totally done. I also am a sucker for a good sitcom on TV!

What makes him cry

Those darn videos of Soldiers coming home get me every time or any time I see my favorite NFL football team (Bengals) and MLB team (Reds) play because they almost always lose.

What he loves

I love Jesus more than I can ever express. I love being a husband and leader of our home. I love being a daddy to my two amazing kids. I love sports, especially baseball. And I love really good restaurants.

Ed Applegate

Executive Pastor of Ministries

Five ways to describe him

Seriously smiley, life-long learner, great listener, coffee and tea fanatic, dedicated family-man.

What he does for Crossroads Grace

Ed is the Executive Pastor of Ministries. He serves the ministries of the church, helping with strategic planning and alignment around our vision. He also preaches occasionally on Sundays. He loves developing leaders and seeing individuals and groups grow spiritually!

Family

“Kiah is my amazing wife of 12 years and we have five fantastic kids. Kiah is a school teacher by profession, but has the job of her dreams, being a stay-at-home mom. We love to go out for coffee, hang out with friends and laugh a lot!”

What he’s passionate about

Ed longs for others to find their joy in Jesus, so he works hard studying, communicating and training others. He also loves building things with wood and doing home improvement projects.

Previously in life

You may have heard of the English pastor WITHOUT an English accent! Ed was born in England and moved to and lived in Modesto, CA from the age of 4 until the age of 13. He then moved back to England until the age of 24 and kept his American accent! He received a BA and teaching degree from Oxford University, taught math to junior high and high school kids in England, then moved back to Modesto to attend seminary and to pursue his sweetheart, Kiah.

Rick Lackey

Five ways to describe him

What he does for Crossroads Grace

Rick oversees the operations and programming of the church. This involves the administration of church resources including finances, facility and personnel. Rick also oversees the overall weekend service planning process. This primarily involves attending meetings so that the temperamental ‘creative’ people don’t have to go to so many!

Family

“I have been married to Debbie for 37 years and we have three children; Derek (and his wife Kalley), Jason (and his wife Kara), and Sarah (and her husband Eli). We also have three dogs: Cindee, Hoby, and Zoey.”

Previously in life

Jim Todd

Pastor of Outreach

Five ways to describe him

Lovingly loud, Always late, Responsibly immature, Well-intentioned and a family-man

What he does for Crossroads Grace

After 20 years in youth ministry, Jim’s role now focuses on Outreach…beginning with local outreach in evangelism and community projects, and reaching to the missions’ effort beyond us in different cultures. His role is morphing as he seeks to blend ministry beyond our walls with strategic use of lives and resources for the work of the Lord Jesus. He also teaches some Sundays and has been a staff pastor since 1988 participating on certain leadership teams.

Family

“My high school sweetheart, Barkley, became my bride and Queen, and we’ve been blessed with three daughters (Haylee, Erin and Kaci) who are all breaking my heart slowly as they mature. We love movies (mostly chic flics), the beach and the pool, music and hanging out.”

The college years

“This was where life came together for me…While pursing a degree in accounting, the lifelong athlete in me met the reality of hanging up the cleats and found a life-changing faith in Jesus. I finished out the degree at Cal Poly Pomona, certain that I was called to ministry. My couple years of campus life with Campus Crusade for Christ showed me the simplicity of talking to people about Jesus and investing in those who turn to Him. I entered Talbot (part of Biola University) for a Master’s degree and spent much of the three years after that graduation looking for a great fit…and found it at Crossroads.”

What makes him laugh

Almost anything! The comic strip “Zits” and years of memories with the Crossroads’ youth and youth workers

What he’s passionate about

Jim is passionate about reaching the unreached, near or far, and coaching soccer. He wants others to see Jesus in the way he lives his life to be intrigued and encouraged. He wants his life to count! Thus, he wakes and walks, and he talks a lot!
