Acts Reading Plan | Week 4 | Day 4
Prayer
Psalm 73:27 says, “But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” Take a moment to calm your mind and body and then pray, thanking God that you are able to be near Him today.
Bible Reading: Acts 4:32-37
Read these verses three times slowly.
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.
Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”), sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.
Reflection & Questions
Today’s reading is a beautiful picture of the church in action. They were “one in heart and mind” – they were united. The apostles are teaching powerfully about Jesus. And the church is responding in amazingly selfless deeds.
It’s a good check as you read this scripture, to stop and think about your attitude and actions towards others in the church. Are your words and deeds building or tearing down the unity of the church? Are you building relationships with others and meeting needs where you are able? If we are growing in Jesus, our attitudes and actions will be like the early church. We will be one in heart and mind with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
- Do you consider your fellow Crossroadians brothers and sisters in Christ? Why or why not?
- What’s a step you need to take in response to this reading?
