Grab a Fork Reading Plan | Week 3 | Day 1
This week in our Grab A Fork Bible Reading Plan we are going to look at different aspects of how God instructs us to share our lives with others. We will use the Bible meditation methods and prayers we’ve learned in the last two weeks. Don’t worry if you missed those, they will be explained as we go. Next week we will pick back up our Acts Bible Reading Plan.
Prayer
Take a moment to be silent and still. In order to be fully present in body and mind, take a deep breath in and let it out slowly. Do this three times.
Isaiah 53:5 says, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Thank Jesus as you come to spend time with Him that no matter how you feel today, you have peace with Him because of His actions (and it’s not dependent on your actions or your feelings).
Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 1:1-13
We’re starting our week on sharing our lives with others looking at the example of the Apostle Paul. Timothy was a young man that Paul poured his life into. In his letter to Timothy, we get a great example of how Paul mentored others. As you read these verses today, notice the way that Paul is encouraging and instructing Timothy. We are going to use the S.O.A.P. method to meditate on it. Firstly, read the verses three times.
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, in keeping with the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,
To Timothy, my dear son:
Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner.Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.
What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.
Reflection & Questions
Use the S.O.A.P. method to meditate on the verses.
- S: Write down a phrase or sentence that strikes you from Paul’s words to Timothy.
- O: Write down an observation on the phrase or sentence. What does it mean? What does it teach?
- A: Write down an application. How does this apply to you?
- P: Finally, write down a prayer in response to the scripture.
Prayer
In our prayers in response to the readings this week, we are going to pray for opportunities to share our lives with others. Think about who you are going to come across today, at home, work, school, or in your neighborhood. As people come to mind, pray for them, and ask God what they need and listen to Him. Ask Him to give you opportunities to encourage them.
