Prayer

As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Ask Him to teach you more about Himself today.

Bible Reading: Isaiah 40:28-31

Read these verses three times slowly.

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Reflection & Questions

As we begin our Unstoppable series, this week in our readings we will be reflecting on the unstoppable nature of our God. We will be looking at just five of His infinite characteristics. Today, we begin with the mind blowing reality that God is everlasting.

Isaiah writes, “the Lord is the everlasting God.” That God is everlasting means that He has no beginning and no end. There was no point He did not exist and there will be no point that He will cease to exist. Stop and think about that. Everything you see has a beginning and end. You. The tree in your yard. The money in your wallet. Your loved ones. The sun, moon and stars. They all have a beginning and they will all have an end. But not God. He never stops, “he does not grow tired or weary”. He’s never threatened. Never fearful. He has no need of vaccines or healthcare. He does not grow old. To imagine God’s everlasting nature hurts our brains, but it humbles our hearts. It is good to dwell on God’s eternal nature.

It almost goes without saying, that when it comes to who or what we should hope in or look for strength from, that Someone who is everlasting should come first. There are many things we can put our hope in or draw strength from, but only One is everlasting. Isaiah says, “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength…they will run and not grow weary.” They become unstoppable.

      1. Dwell on the fact that God has no beginning or end. Where does that lead your thoughts? What questions does that raise?
      2. Where are you putting your hope and looking for strength from today? If not from God, why not?
