Unstoppable Reading Plan | Week 1 | Day 2
Prayer
Allow some silence for your soul to catch up with your body. Thank God for His love and ask Him to help you understand it even more!
Bible Reading: Psalm 36:5-7
Read these verses three times slowly.
Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
Reflection & Questions
This week we are looking at our Unstoppable God. Yesterday we saw that He is everlasting. Today, we see that He is unstoppable in his love.
When we think of God being unstoppable we might think of His power or His judgements. Ways that might make Him feel intimidating. While these are true characteristics of our God, what is also emphasized again and again in scripture is God’s unstoppable love. Just one example is in Psalm 36, where David wrote, “Your love, Lord reaches to the heavens” and “How priceless is your unfailing love.”
The Hebrew word for “unfailing love” is hesed. It is very significant word, used throughout scripture to describe God’s love. It is sometimes translated as steadfast love or unconditional love. God’s ‘hesed’ is a love not based on someone or something else. It is simply based on His everlasting nature. His love carries on regardless – it is who He is. It is why John can write, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). We fail. We fall short. But God’s hesed love remains. This is why Paul can ask rhetorically, “What can separate us from the love of God?” (Romans 8:38). The answer, of course, is nothing. God’s love for you is unstoppable.
As David says this kind of love is “priceless” and people who know Him, take “refuge in the shadow of your wings.” As we discover our God’s unstoppable love, we realize that His unstoppable nature isn’t intimidating, but it is tender and one that invites us to get in real close to Him, for His love is never ending.
- Do you believe God’s love for you is unstoppable? Why or why not? Are you basing God’s love for you on your nature or His nature?
- Are you taking refuge in God? Why or why not?
