Unstoppable Reading Plan | Week 3 | Day 2
Prayer
Allow some silence for your soul to catch up with your body. As you come to spend time with Jesus, ask Him to open your eyes to His truth and how it applies to your life today.
Bible Reading: Matthew 6:19-21
Read these verses three times slowly.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Reflection & Questions
Yesterday, Jesus said “the good life” belongs to the generous. In our verses today, Jesus is showing us that a life of generosity is the logical life. Notice Jesus doesn’t debate whether or not we should store up treasure. He asks where do you want that treasure and what kind of treasure do you want?
If we store up treasures on earth, it is ultimately a pointless endeavor. There will always be the fears and realities of losing it. And in the end, there are no hearses towing u-haul trailers.
But treasures in heaven are eternal; you cannot lose them! This is why the life of generosity, the life of putting Jesus first, where we store up treasure in heaven is the logical life. Yes, it takes faith, but for the faithful, the rewards are eternal.
- Jesus doesn’t debate going after treasure. Do you think aiming for heavenly treasure is a noble goal? Why or why not?
- It’s been said, “The more we have, the more things have us.” Do you agree? Why or why not?
