Ripple Effect Reading | Week 2 | Day 2

Prayer

Allow some silence for your soul to catch up with your body. Thank God for time to spend with Him and ask Him to meet with you.

Bible Reading: 1 Peter 4:10-11

Read these verses three times slowly.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Reflection & Questions

One of the incredible privileges about being part of God’s family is that He gives us a role to play. Each one of us. None is left to sit on the sidelines wishing to be on the field. In our verses today, Peter explains to his readers that each of them has received a gift to serve others. We’re included in that. Noone in Christ is left out.

What are those gifts? Peter simply gives us two categories. There are speaking gifts and serving gifts. We will look later in the RIpple Effect reading plan at the list of spiritual gifts, but Peter keeps it simple. Can you speak encouragement? Do it! Can you mow a lawn? Do it! Can you write a letter or text to a hurting friend? Do it! Can you help clean the church? Do it! Whatever gift you have received Peter says, “use it!”

He’s adamant that we serve because it is through our service that we are “stewards of God’s grace.” In other words, we’re literally giving the grace of God to others as we serve. We’re not just ‘being kind’, it’s something far greater. When we serve we are showing others God’s grace.

But he also says, make sure you tap into God’s power. These gifts are Holy Spirit powered. He says if you speak, “speak the very words of God.” If its acts of service, do them “with the strength God provides.” God designed us to be a conduit of his power. We serve best when we serve with His word and His strength.
