Unashamed Reading Plan | Week 8 | Day 4
Prayer
Take a moment to be silent and still. In order to be fully present in body and mind, take a deep breath in and let it out slowly. Do this three times. Ask God to give you His wisdom today.
Bible Reading: Galatians 3:26-4:7
Read these verses three times slowly.
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world. But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
Reflection & Questions
Yesterday, in Romans 8 we saw how the Spirit helps us understand that we are children of God. In our reading from Galatians today, there is a very similar theme. What is clear in these verses, is that God was on a determined course for us to become his children.
Notice what he did? Paul writes that “God sent his Son” and “God sent the Spirit.”
The Son was sent “that we might receive adoption to sonship.” The Spirit was sent into our hearts and He called out “Abba, Father.” So the Son makes us children of God. The Spirit teaches us how to be children of God.
How amazing that all three members of the Trinity are involved in our restoration! If it makes you feel loved, that is exactly right. There is a determination in the heart of God to do everything that we would be children of God. And not only know it in our head, but sense it in our hearts.
- Have you ever thought that each of the members of the Trinity are involved in your restoration? How does that touch you?
Prayer
Talk to God in response to today’s reading.
Worship Song
You might use this song today to worship Jesus today:
Bible Reading: Galatians 3:26-27; 4:6-7
Read these verses three times slowly.
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. … Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
Reflection & Questions
Here we are in another book of the Bible where Paul tells us again that we are God’s children When we are His children, He sends His Holy Spirit into our hearts. These verses show that God seriously wants for us to become His children.
Paul writes two very specific things here: “God sent his Son” and “God sent the Spirit.” They each had a specific purpose in being sent. The Son (Jesus) was sent “that we might receive adoption to sonship.” So the Son MAKES us children of God. The Spirit was sent into our hearts and He called out “Abba, Father.” The Spirit teaches us HOW to be children of God.
How amazing that all the members of the Trinity (God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit) are all involved in us becoming children of God! It should make you feel incredibly loved. God is determined from His heart that we might become His children. He wants us to know it in our heads and to feel it in our hearts!
- How does it make you feel to know that God is very determined for you to be His Child?
Pray
Thank God for making a way for you to be His child and for loving you so much that He sent His Son and the Holy Spirit to make it happen.
