Unashamed Reading Plan | Week 10 | Day 1
Prayer
As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Ask Him to teach you more about Himself today.
Bible Reading: Romans 8:31-32
Read these verses three times slowly.
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
Reflection & Questions
We finished last week looking at the security we have in Christ. Paul wrote that,
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”
Today’s verses ask us how will we respond? Are we going forward in humble confidence? Will we live gratefully? Are we going to shrink back? But just in case we don’t get what he is getting at, he asks a series of rhetorical questions we read today and will read tomorrow.
Today’s questions are:
- ”If God is for us, who can be against us?” In other words, who are you going to fear? God is truly on your side. It feels great when a friend steps up to defend you against another. How much better that God is your defender!
- “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things” In other words, God gave up his most precious possession, his only Son. Why would he hold back anything else? Nothing else compares. We can walk confidently, there is nothing God will withhold from us without good reason – He is fully committed to us, for He has already given us the Treasure.
A Christian can walk humbly but confidently as a child of God. God is standing with us. And He’s fully committed to us!
- What word or phrase sticks out to you from today’s verses? Why?
- Do you walk confidently as a child of God? Why or why not? How does Paul change

Reflection & Questions
Lots of questions in today’s Bible verses, right? We’ve been learning all about the gift of salvation and what that looks like coming from Jesus to us. But how are WE supposed to respond to getting this gift – being saved from all our sins? That’s the first question of today: How do we respond?
Before we can answer that, Paul asks another question to help our brains start to figure this out: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” This is the type of question we immediately know the answer to: NO ONE! So that means that when we have God on our side, we can start living life without fear. It feels great when a friend steps up to defend you against another. How much better is it knowing that GOD, the almighty, is on your side?!
The last question of today helps us feel confident – God gave up His own son for us by having Jesus die on the cross for our sins. If God would do something that huge for us, how will He not also graciously give us all things? He must REALLY love us! That means that God would not hold anything back from us without a good reason to do so. (There are times when there are good reasons that God has for not giving us what we ask for.)
So not only can we walk without fear but we can walk confidently too. We’ve got a great, big, WONDERFUL God who is always beside us, watching out for us, and taking care of us.
- What do you think it feels like to have God with you all the time?
Pray
Thank God for being with you all the time and ask Him to help you walk without fear and to walk confidently knowing that He is always there to help you!
