John Reading Plan | Week 12, Day 2

Prayer

Give your soul a moment of silence to align with your body. Express gratitude to God for the opportunity to be with Him and invite Him to meet you at this time.

Bible Reading: John 17:6-12

Read these verses three times slowly.

“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

Reflection & Questions

This week we are looking at the final prayer of Jesus’ before He is betrayed, put on trial and crucified. He knows exactly what is coming and yet, amazingly, His concern is for His followers and for us.

Today’s part of the prayer is for the disciples and His prayer is for their protection. He prays, “Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me.”

Jesus loves His disciples and He is concerned for them. He knows they are going to face intense trials and temptations. He knows they need protection. He is a good Shepherd who is looking out for them. He knows His Father has the same heart and will protect them, too.

It’s the same for us. Jesus is our Shepherd and God is our Father. They knows the trials and temptations we face in this world. They are concerned for our protection. We can trust them, look to them and know they will watch over us. It’s an amazing truth to be a child of the Trinity!
