Mixtapes Reading | Week 4 | Day 5

Prayer

As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Thank Jesus that he came to save you!

Bible Reading: Psalm 46

Read these verses three times slowly.

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Reflection

As we wrap up our week in Psalms of lament, we turn to Psalm 46, a psalm of trust that encourages anyone in a season of lament. The psalmist begins by explaining that God is our refuge no matter our troubles. There are two key characters of God displayed here. God is our refuge; we find safety and protection with Him. God is present in our trouble; God is with us. He isn’t a God who is far away; He is the Lord of Hosts who is with us.

God loves us so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to die for us and then sent His Holy Spirit to dwell in us. No matter what we face in this broken world, God is our refuge and strength. We can trust that no matter what emotions we feel, experiences we face, or situations we find ourselves in, God is with us. Spend in prayer thanking God for His love, promises, and presence in your life.
