Acts Reading Plan | Week 2 | Day 4
Prayer
Psalm 19:9-11 says: The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” Thank God for His word and ask Him to open your eyes to what He is saying today.
Bible Reading: Acts 2:37-41
Read these verses three times slowly.
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
Reflection & Questions
Peter’s sermon “cut to the heart” of the people. They were undone by his words, because the Holy Spirit was powerfully at work.
“What shall we do?” is a great question to ask when conviction comes. Peter’s answer was full of good news. Exactly what we’d expect from the one who’d denied Jesus three times, was cut to the heart by a rooster crow and then forgiven and restored by Jesus.
He tells them, “Repent and be baptized. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Amazingly, 3,000 were saved in that one day. It was a mass baptism! And instead of just a king, a few prophets, or even the 120 followers – now over 3,000 people were full of the Holy Spirit and ready to spread the good news of Jesus!
- Was there a moment or season when God “cut you to the heart”? How did you respond?
- Have you been baptized? If not, follow Peter’s message! Check out our Baptism page for more information: crossroadsgrace.org/baptism.
