Acts Reading Plan | Week 2 | Day 5
Prayer
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Take a moment to calm your heart and mind. Ask Him to speak to you through His word. To teach, rebuke, correct and train you.
Bible Reading: Acts 2:42-47
Read these verses three times slowly.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Reflection & Questions
What are you devoted to? If someone looked at your life, your phone usage, your bank account, or your calendar, what would they say? Yesterday, we read that 3,000 people were saved after Peter’s sermon. What did they do next? They devoted themselves to following Jesus – they were overwhelmed by the grace and truth of Jesus! These verses in Acts explain exactly what that looked like. They learned as much as they could about Jesus, they shared fellowship, they prayed, they were generous, they worshiped. They were a people devoted to Jesus – and others took notice. “The Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” This is what happens when people repent and follow Jesus – lives are transformed and others take notice.
- As you read what the followers were devoted to, what sticks out to you? Why?
- Is there an area that you sense God is calling you to be more devoted in? What’s your next step in that?
Prayer
