Acts Reading Plan | Week 5 | Day 1
Prayer
In John 6:38, Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” Come before Him and ask Him to fill your today with more of Him.
Bible Reading: Acts 5:12-16
Read these verses three times slowly.
The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon’s Colonnade. No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.
Reflection & Questions
Today’s passage continues to describe the incredible days in the early life of the Church. The Holy Spirit is powerfully at work. Even just the passing of Peter’s shadow is enough for people to experience healing. Imagine being there in those days!
But even with all this, and even though the believers were well respected, the people who had yet to believe were fearful of being seen in public with them. Perhaps they had heard of what happened to Ananias and Sapphira. Perhaps they saw the persecution the believers were facing. For whatever reason, the not-yet-believers wouldn’t come close in public, but Luke says many were still coming to Christ. The followers were reaching their ONEs perhaps through private conversations with their family, their friends, their neighbors.
Times of supernatural revival like this in Acts 5 are not everyday occurrences in the history of the Church. But they are not unique to Acts. In His wisdom and timing, there have been many times where God has brought revival to a region of the world. Where His presence is thick, supernatural events occur and people are converted in large numbers. We can, and should, pray for God to bring revival to our city, our state and even our nation. While we wait for his supernatural work in a special way, we can follow the example of the believers in Acts by praying for and reaching our ONEs through sharing our stories and talking about Jesus.
Prayer
Pray for your ONE and for the opportunity to talk to them about Jesus.
