Community Reading Plan | Day 4
Prayer
Take a moment to be silent and still. In order to be fully present in body and mind, take a deep breath in and let it out slowly. Do this three times. Ask God to give you His wisdom today.
Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Read these verses three times slowly.
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Reflection & Questions
By Ken Mullette
I (Ken Mullette) have led a Growth Groups for many years at Crossroads. Last year, one of our group members was diagnosed with cancer and began to receive chemotreatments. During this time, this individual was not able to work or do anything physical around the home. Thankfully our Growth Group stepped in to help. Our group aided with practical needs, visitations, and prayer. This individual was encouraged by the support and not alone in the fight against this illness.
Solomon (the author of Ecclesiastes) is considered by many to be the wisest man that ever lived on Earth. In his wisdom, Solomon knew that it was not good for people to live their lives in isolation. He understood that isolation could be a health risk to an individual as well as a threat to their safety. As king, Solomon’s desire for his subjects was to thrive and live productive lives. He knew the key to their success was closely linked to the personal connections that the people had with each other.
Life is better together. Not only are there measurable benefits that can come with personal connections, but it makes…life…fun! If you do not have any personal connections that make life fun, then consider joining a Growth Group. Besides spiritual growth and encouragement, Growth Groups are a place to experience laughter and celebrate life together. To learn more, tap the word Growth Group and let us help you get connected in community.
- How has your experience of isolation or community impacted your ability to navigate challenges and celebrate joys in life?
- In what ways can you actively seek to strengthen or establish meaningful connections with others to enhance your support network and enrich your life?
