Exit Us Reading Day 20
BIBLE READING PLAN WEEK 4
EXITING OUR COMFORT
DAY 5
In our readings this week, we’re focusing on the key idea from Exodus 5 & 6: “Sometimes the most uncomfortable moments in our life are so we can find our comfort in God.” Today, we will read from Romans 8 as we think more about that.
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
Reflection: As we finish our deep dive into “Exiting Our Comfort”, we finish the week reading about the ultimate comfort we have to look forward to. The glory of Heaven far outweighs our current sufferings. Persevere in your trials today because heaven is worth it!- What do you most look forward to about heaven? Talk to God about that
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Reflection: We’ve done a deep dive this week into “Exiting Our Comfort”. We’ve read that even though God was with Moses, it didn’t mean his mission was easy. We read about storms that will come in our lives. We read that people will reject us even when we’re following God’s ways. But we also read that God cares for us deeply and will comfort us in all our troubles. We finish the week reading about the ultimate comfort we have to look forward to, which far outweighs our current sufferings (8:18). We may “groan inwardly” now, but there will come a day when we will be with Jesus, with new bodies and will see him face to face. It will be so real and feel so right that it will make the current trials but a distant memory. For now, “wait eagerly” (8:23) Paul says.- What’s the difference between “grumbling” and “groaning”? Which do you do more of?
- What does it look like to “wait eagerly” for heaven? Are you doing that?
- What do you most look forward to about heaven? Talk to God about that.
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
Reflection: This week, we talked a lot about how God is there for us, and all of the different ways that He helps us in life. We talked about how God helps us when we’re uncomfortable, is there for us when we’re scared, and shows up when we think we can’t do something. And here is what we know – life isn’t always going to be easy! And just because we are followers of Jesus, doesn’t mean that life gets super easy all of the sudden. But what it does mean, is that when we run into those types of situations, and life does get hard, Jesus is there for us! And at the end of it all, we get to spend forever in paradise with Jesus!- Has Jesus being in your life changed it at all? How has it changed?
- Do you think that Jesus is excited to spend forever with us in Heaven?
