Bible Reading (read these verses three times slowly)
One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no commandment greater than these.”
“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.
Reflection & Questions
What topic surpasses all others as the subject of songs? It’s love, of course. And so we would expect it to be since our Designer has placed love at the center of the meaning and purpose of life. It’s that incredible design that makes the greatest commandments also the ones that bring us the most joy. How wise and awesome is our God!
Unlike other made up gods who are demanding and unmerciful, our God is love. He loves us deeply and wants us to reflect that same love back to Him and onto others.
Want to know how to please God today? Love those around you! Are you grateful to God for all He has done? Love those around you! Want to experience the deepest meaning and purpose in life? It’s simple: love God and love others.
- How would life be different if God had placed something other than love as the greatest command? For example, what if He had put duty at the center. What would that be like?
- What’s one way you could show love to your ONE this week?
Pray
Thank God for His love and for designing life the way He did. Ask for Him to lead you in how to love your ONE this week.

Reflection and Questions
What is the thing that almost EVERY song is about? It’s love, of course. But that’s sort of what we should expect, right, since God has placed love at the center of the meaning and purpose of life. It’s that incredible design that makes the greatest commandments also the ones that bring us the most joy. How wise and awesome is our God!
Unlike other made up gods who are demanding and unkind, our God is full of love. He loves us deeply and wants us to show that same love back to Him and onto others.
Want to know how to please God today? Love those around you! Are you grateful to God for all He has done? Love those around you! Want to experience the deepest meaning and purpose in life? It’s simple: love God and love others.
- What’s one way you could show love to your ONE (or someone else) this week?
Prayer
Talk to God and let Him know how much you love Him, and thank Him for loving you even more.

There are Ten Commandments, but did you know that 2 of the commandments encompass pretty much everything within those ten? And they both deal with one key element:
