Week 3 | Day 3 | Mark 3:13-19
Check out all the previous readings here.
Pray
As you come to the reading today, write down all the things that are troubling you, giving them to God. Then ask God to open your eyes and your ears to his Word.
Bible Reading (read these verses three times slowly)
Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Reflection & Questions
Jesus’ goal all along was to teach others His ways so that the whole world would be reached with the gospel. How would he teach them? Through them being “with him.” Jesus knew that if the disciples were going to learn, they would need much more than a curriculum or instructions. They would need to see him at work, up close and personal. They’d need to experience his teaching and ask him questions when the crowds were gone. They’d need to see him when he was interrupted or accused. They’d need to see how he got away to pray. They’d need to hear his vision and understand the motivation of his heart in the intimate moments around the firepit. They needed to be “with him”. We don’t have the luxury of following Jesus in the flesh, but the principle of learning remains the same. We need to be “with him” through following His Word written to us, through listening to his Spirit inside of us and through learning from His people who are ahead of us.
- How are you spending time “with” Jesus in this season? Is there anything you need to do differently?
Pray
Use Psalm 25:4 as a part of your prayer today:
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Reflection and Questions
Jesus was doing a lot of amazing teaching, wasn’t he? We’ve been reading about Jesus teaching SO many people, but do you think that just ONE Jesus could teach EVERYONE? How could Jesus figure out a way to teach more people, in more places than just one? Well, He picked 12 disciples! Disciples were people who followed Jesus and learned from Him and His teachings. They would learn everything that Jesus taught, and go and help teach other people the same things. And the best way to do this was to invite them to be with Him always, and to walk along life with Jesus. That way, they’d learn how Jesus was everywhere, all of the time! Wouldn’t that be so cool, to live life with Jesus, right next to Him all of the time? Well, we can’t do it the exact same way that the disciples did back then, but we can live with Him in our own way today! We get to read the Bible and learn about Jesus in ways that teach us SO much about Him! And then, after we learn more and more about Him, we can live with Him in our life every single day! How cool is that?
- What are ways that you’ve spent time with Jesus recently? Have you read your Bible? Or been to church? Or prayed? How did it go?
- What is one way you can focus on living with Jesus today?
Prayer
Pray to see Jesus in your life today!

Have you ever thought about Jesus being your teacher? Not exactly like those who teach you chemistry or algebra. And not exactly like the twelve disciples were taught. But it is similar!
