Mark Reading Plan – W6D2
Week 6 | Day 2 | Mark 6:7-13
Pray
Thank God for something in your life and ask Him to speak to you through your reading and reflection today.
Bible Reading (read these verses three times slowly)
Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.
These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”
They went out and preached that people should repent. They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.
Reflection & Questions
In today’s reading, Jesus takes his training of his disciples to the next step. He sends them on a mission.
He sends them with full spiritual authority, but without any supplies. They are forced to trust God to provide and to rely on the hospitality of others. And it’s incredible the results they see as they go. They see God provide and that the hospitality of others is a sign of the openness of their hearts to the gospel.
Jesus has given us the mission of making disciples (see Matthew 28:18-20), and the principles here in Mark help us. Firstly, we shouldn’t wait until we feel we have everything we need – we can rely on God! He will provide for us as we reach out to others with the gospel. Secondly, at our workplaces, neighborhoods or schools, we should look for people who are kind, open and listen well. Sometimes they are called “people of peace.” Finally, as we begin to share with these “people of peace”, listen for Jesus’ voice to guide you in what to do next. Let Him teach you how to reach them for the gospel. He may lead you to meet needs, share words, invite them to church or something else.
- Do you rely on God as you look to reach others for Jesus or do you think you have to have it all together?
- Think about who are “people of peace” around you and pray for opportunities to talk to them about Jesus.
Pray
Pray for the people of peace around you and the opportunities to share with them about Jesus.
Worship Song
In response to today’s reading, you could use this song to worship Jesus:

Reflection and Questions
In today’s reading, Jesus takes his training of his disciples to the next step. He sends them on a mission.
But for some reason, He sends them without any supplies. Why would He do that? Because that way, they would trust God to provide and take care of them. Also, they would have to rely on the kindness of others. And it’s incredible the results they see as they go. They see God take care of them, and they also see the kindness of others as a sign of someone who might want to learn about Jesus.
Jesus has given us the mission of telling others about how Jesus loves them, and this bible story helps us on how to do that. Firstly, we shouldn’t wait until we think we have everything we need – we can rely on God! He will take care of us as we reach out to others to tell them about Jesus’ love for them. Secondly, we should look for people who are kind, open and listen well. Sometimes we just call them ‘nice people’. They aren’t the ONLY ones who need to learn about Jesus, but sometimes it’s nice and easy to tell the nice people about Him first!
- Have you ever been in a situation where God took care of you? What happened?
- Think about someone at school or that you know that you could tell them that Jesus loves them!
Prayer
Pray to be able to tell someone about Jesus today!
