Mark Reading Plan – W7D3
Week 7 | Day 3 | Mark 7:24-30
Pray
As you come to the reading today, write down all the things that are troubling you, giving them to God. Then ask God to open your eyes and your ears to his Word
Bible Reading (read these verses three times slowly)
Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
“First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
“Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
Reflection & Questions
In these verses, Jesus begins a new part of His ministry, where He heads into the Gentile (non-Jewish) towns. This is partly to get away from the religious leaders, but mainly to show that He has come for both Jews and Gentiles. That is very good news for those of us who are not Jewish!
In today’s story, Mark tenderly writes about a “little” girl who is possessed by a demon. He writes that as soon as her mom heard about Jesus, she was at His feet begging on behalf of her daughter. And then, even at Jesus’ purposely cryptic response, this mom is right there speaking on behalf of her daughter. Dogs get crumbs! This mom is persistent. This is what might be called “Mama Bear” faith! She won’t give up on her little girl and she knows the answer is in Jesus.
- Who in your life needs someone with “mama bear” faith to pray for them?
- Have you given up on coming to Jesus with a request? Why?
Pray
Today, if you’re physically able, get on your knees like the mom in this story and go before Jesus with your requests.

In response to today’s reading, you could use this song to worship Jesus:

Reflection and Questions
In these verses, Jesus begins a new part of His ministry, where He heads into the Gentile (which means non-Jewish) towns. This is partly to get away from the religious leaders who were really upset with him at the time, but mainly to show that He has come for both Jews and Gentiles. That is very good news for those of us who are not Jewish, Jesus is for everyone!
In today’s story, Mark writes about a “little” girl who is possessed by a demon. He writes that as soon as her mom heard about Jesus, she was at His feet begging on behalf of her daughter. And then this mom is right there speaking for her daughter. Dogs get crumbs! This mom is persistent. This is what might be called “Mama Bear” faith! She won’t give up on her little girl and she knows the answer is in Jesus. She begs and pleads with Jesus to heal her little girl, and He does! The mom had faith that Jesus could heal her daughter, and He did.
- Have you ever prayed to Jesus asking for Him to help them?
- Who can you pray for today for Jesus to help them out?
Prayer
Today, get down on your knees like the mom in this story and pray to Jesus for someone in your life who needs Him.
