Pray for ONE Reading Plan | Week 3 | Day 5

Prayer

As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Thank Jesus that he came to save you and he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Bible Reading: Psalm 67

Read these verses three times slowly.

May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us—
so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.

May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you rule the peoples with equity
and guide the nations of the earth.
May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.

The land yields its harvest;
God, our God, blesses us.
May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Reflection & Questions

By Pastor Dan Chapin.

Yesterday we looked at the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:18-20. Sometimes we like to think that the Great Commission is really a Jesus thing that came to us through the New Testament. However, if we take a look at PSalms 67 we’ll see that the Great Commission is not a surprise mission that God put the disciples and us on. The commission to share the gracious blessing that is to follow God was always supposed to be a global phenomenon.

This phenomenon is supposed to cross the barriers of nations, ethnicity, continents and religious background. The psalmist writes out the benefits of this barrier breaking. He says that when people embrace the God of the Bible that it will bless their nation. Their crops will be blessed. The people will be ruled with equity. God’s graciousness will be upon them. God will not only change the people, but will change the culture too!

      1. The psalmists lists a few ways that the people may be blessed, which ones do you wish were true for the people in your life?
      2. How does Psalm 67 differ from the one found in Matthew 28:18-20?
