Ripple Effect Reading | Week 2 | Day 1
Prayer
As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Ask Him to teach you more about Himself today.
Bible Reading: Colossians 3:23-24
Read these verses three times slowly.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Reflection & Questions
This week in our Ripple Effect readings we’re continuing to dig into the importance of a follower of Jesus being a servant. We start the week looking at Colossians 3:23-24. These are two power packed verses when it comes to the mindset of Christ-follower. There are four striking phrases to focus on.
- “Whatever you do” – Paul doesn’t leave room for us to exclude service from a part of our lives. Whether we think it’s an important task or not. Whether we’re in routine or on a beach vacation. Whatever we do and wherever we’re at we’re to be a servant.
- “With all your heart” – half-heartedness is never attractive nor satisfying. The Lord’s servants are not half hearted. They put their whole heart into whatever they are doing.
- “For the Lord” – The Christ-follower’s first thought is to serve their worthy Savior and Lord Jesus. That is why they do what they do. Their willing to do whatever with all their heart because they love their Lord.
- “You know that you will receive an inheritance” – Paul wants us to remember there is a reward coming. It is good to remember that and to serve with that in mind. It is not ungodly to serve with a heavenly reward in mind!
Whatever you find yourself doing today, whether at home, work or play, serve others with your whole heart. Serve because you love Jesus and you have a reward to look forward to!
- Do you serve with all your heart? Why or why not?
- What motivates you to serve? How do you know?
