Unstoppable Reading Plan | Week 3 | Day 5

Prayer

As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Ask Him to teach you through His word today.

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:10-15

Read these verses three times slowly.

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

Reflection & Questions

We continue to look at Paul’s instructions to the Corinthians about their gift. Yesterday, we saw the principles of a giving life. Today, we see the results of their giving:

      • Giving meets needs. Paul says their gifts will supply for the “needs of the Lord’s people.” There’s a very practical reason to give. Our giving makes a difference. As we look at the R.U.N. goals of Unstoppable, there are very practical ways that this will make an impact. We will be meeting the spiritual, physical, emotional and mental needs of our community.
      • Giving results in God being praised. Paul says the Corinthians gift is “not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.” What happens when God’s people give? People come to know God, they experience God’s love and they praise God! It is not hard to imagine all the people who will come to praise God through Unstoppable when we remember how our lives have been changed because of the generosity of those who came before us! Our giving will lead to God being praised by more and more people!
      • Giving brings unity. The Corinthians gift was going to meet the needs of another church, and Paul says, “in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you.” There’s a unity that comes from generosity. In our own community, as we give to Unstoppable and meet the needs of others, there’s heartfelt unity that will come as people see the sacrifices we have made to show God’s love.
      1. Which of these results of giving excites you the most as you think about Unstoppable?
      2. As we finish this week of reflecting on Unstoppable Generosity, take some time to pray and ask God to guide you in your commitment to the Unstoppable Initiative.
