Unstoppable Reading Plan | Week 4 | Day 3
Prayer
Take a moment to be silent and still. In order to be fully present in body and mind, take a deep breath in and let it out slowly. Do this three times. Pray that God would open your eyes to wonderful things from His word today.
Bible Reading: Ephesians 3:16-19
Read these verses three times slowly.
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Reflection & Questions
We are continuing to look at how transformation happens in our readings this week. On day one we saw it begins with a heart ready for change. Yesterday we saw that change happens through God in us – it takes God’s full participation and our full participation. Tomorrow and the next day we will look at specific things that we do and God does in that process.
But there is a critical element that we must take to heart in our process of change. That is the knowledge and experience of the love of God. In our verses today, Paul is praying for the Ephesian church, and his prayer is that they would have power to understand “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,” with the result that they would be complete in Christ. Just like growing up in a home full of love helps a child grow into adulthood, as we know and experience the love of Christ we will also grow up and mature.
Paul prays that the Ephesians would “know this love.” The word “know” here isn’t just an intellectual exercise. It means to understand and experience. It’s the difference between reading someone’s resume and enjoying a delicious dinner with them. When we experience God’s love it penetrates our hearts as much as our minds. It is this stirring that motivates and compels us to fully participate in our transformation.
So how do we know and experience more of God’s love? Pray prayers like Paul prayed in our verse today. Pray that you would have “power…to grasp the love of Christ and to know this love that suprasses knowledge.”
