Unstoppable Reading Plan | Week 5 | Day 5

Prayer

As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Ask Him to teach you through His word today.

Bible Reading: Colossians 1:15-19

Read these verses three times slowly.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

Reflection & Questions

As we finish our Unstoppable reading plan, we leave with one of the most important and encouraging passages about Jesus. The Apostle Paul is writing to the church in Colossae, and he tells them some amazing truths about who Jesus is. The fact is that the one we call our Lord and Savior is a very BIG deal. In fact, there is no one and nothing that is more supreme. As Paul says, “in everything” He has the supremacy.

Paul tells us ways that Jesus is supreme:

      • He is supreme over creation (firstborn doesn’t mean He was born, but simply that He is the heir of it all)
      • He created all things (“by Him… all things were created”)
      • He created them for Himself (“for Him…all things were created”)
      • He holds all things together (that includes your beating heart and the Earth’s orbit – at the same time!)
      • He is first in new creation

Jesus is literally unstoppable!

And into this list, did you see who Paul says Jesus is all about? What organization does He pay attention to? What group of people does He lead? The Church! This makes the Church the most important organization in the entire world! But only if it remains attached to its head, Jesus.

Jesus is unstoppable. And because of this, so is His church. With all the strength He provides, let’s go Crossroads and complete the mission that Jesus has given us! With Him we’re unstoppable. Next week we are beginning a reading plan through the book of 1 Thessalonians. This is a letter to an amazing church, that is on fire for Jesus. They are a great example for us to learn from!

      1. What areas of Jesus’ supremacy that Paul talks about encourage you in your life today?
      2. Would others look at your life and see that God is the highest priority? Or is God merely a priority, even a high one, on your long list of priorities? (Be as honest as you can.)

Prayer

Talk to God in response to the reading today.
