Mixtapes Reading | Week 4 | Day 4

Prayer

Take a moment to be silent and still. In order to be fully present in body and mind, take a deep breath in and let it out slowly. Do this three times. Ask God to give you His wisdom today.

Bible Reading: Psalm 13

Read these verses three times slowly.

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.

Reflection

By Heather Lee

Are we there yet? This age-old question has plagued parents for years. I remember learning quickly not to ask that question on our ten-hour road trips every summer growing up. I wanted to know how long it would take to be free from the car, my sisters, and my discomfort.

David begins Psalm 13 by asking God, “How long, O Lord?” David finds himself in a place of discomfort and cries out to God. How long will you feel distant? How long will I be stuck? How long will I grieve? How long will it take for justice to come? How long will I be in this discomfort?

We can learn a few things from David when we find ourselves in discomfort or waiting, looking for answers. We must keep praying. We can cry out to God during difficult times because He listens. No matter what you’re going through, there is always something to rejoice in because we have salvation in Jesus. God’s love and forgiveness toward us doesn’t change; this is a great reason to praise the Lord. No matter how uncomfortable you feel or the struggles you’re facing, we can still worship God because of what He’s done for us. Worship helps us shift our focus from our situation to one who gives us salvation. Spend time crying out to God and worship Him for the hope we have in Jesus.
