Prayer
As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Ask Him to teach you more about Himself today.
Bible Reading: Galatians 6:1-2
Read these verses three times slowly.
Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Reflection & Questions
By Ken Mullette
The American Revolution, which spanned from 1775 to 1783, witnessed the thirteen American colonies striving for independence from British rule. Key to their success was the essential support provided by France, offering crucial military aid and financial backing. Figures like Marquis de Lafayette played pivotal roles, bringing expertise and resources that proved invaluable in pivotal battles such as Yorktown. The need for support extended beyond France, requiring solidarity from the world community, including diplomatic efforts and material assistance from other nations sympathetic to the cause of American independence. This shared burden for independence underscores how collaborative efforts between American revolutionaries and their global allies culminated in the British surrender at Yorktown, marking a transformative moment in American history.
In this passage from his letter to the churches in Galatia, Paul encourages the believers to “carry each other’s burdens” as a means of becoming more Christ-like. To do this, there are two tasks that the believers are instructed to do. First, you have to be open to allowing other Christians to come alongside you to “carry the burden” that is weighing you down in life. Second, a Christian is called to the task of helping others. By doing these things you are following Jesus’s command to love others as yourself.
Who do you know right now that needs encouragement or just a listening ear? Do you have anyone in your life who can encourage and help you when life does not go as planned? How about joining a Growth Group and getting connected with others? Growth Groups are small groups of people that meet weekly to study the Bible and do life together. To learn more, tap the word Growth Group and let us help you get connected in community.
- How does the historical example of international support during the American Revolution illustrate the biblical principle of “carrying each other’s burdens”?
- Think about your current community or circle of friends. How can you actively apply the principle of “carrying each other’s burdens” by offering support and encouragement to someone who is going through a challenging time?
