John Reading Plan | Week 11, Day 3
Prayer
Pause for a moment of quiet and stillness. To center yourself fully, take a deep breath in and exhale slowly. Repeat this process three times. Ask God to open your eyes to the amazing truths in His word today.
Bible Reading: John 16:12-15
Read these verses three times slowly.
“I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
Reflection & Questions
Jesus has laid out so much difficulty for the disciples in these past few chapters of John, but He tells them in these verses today that “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.” Jesus knows how much they can handle and in love and wisdom only tells them what they need to know. He is a very good shepherd.
As we read yesterday, though, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit and in today’s verses He tells the disciples what the Spirit will do. He tells them, the Spirit “will guide you into all truth” and “he will glorify me.” These are two ways we can expect the Spirit to work in our lives. As we talk with the Spirit, we can pray that He will show us the truth – as we struggle to have eyes to see with God’s perspective, and we struggle to understand His word, we can ask Him to open our eyes to see. And we can know that it is the Spirit guiding us, because He will glorify Jesus. As the Spirit guides us into truth, we will see who Jesus is more clearly. Our hearts will rejoice more fully in Him. Our minds will be transfixed with the profound wisdom of God revealed in Jesus.
- What word or phrase sticks out to you from these verses? Why?
- How has the Spirit guided you into truth?
