Bible Reading: John 4:39-42
Read these verses three times slowly.
Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers.
They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
Reflection & Questions
This is a beautiful story of the transformation that happens when God gets ahold of someone’s life and the way one changed life can turn into many, in fact a whole town!
John tells us that “Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in [Jesus] because of the women’s testimony. There is no doubt that stories are powerful. Social media is built on this principle and it keeps people coming back for more. Our stories, our testimony of Jesus’ impact in our life can deeply touch others and open doors for them to seek Him for themselves.
And that’s just what we see the people of this town do. They “came to him” and listened to his teaching, eventually telling the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
This is how the gospel spreads. People hear our stories and lean in. They then go to Jesus themselves and He touches their hearts, too. They no longer need to rely simply on our story, for, as we know, the Bible is true, Jesus is real and for those who are truly seeking, they will find!
- Do you believe your testimony of what Jesus has done in your life is a story with sharing? Why or why not?
- Ask God to give you opportunities this week to share your story with others.
