Prayer
Give your soul a moment of silence to align with your body. Express gratitude to God for the opportunity to be with Him and invite Him to meet you at this time.
Bible Reading: John 14:5-7
Read these verses three times slowly.
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Reflection & Questions
Jesus told his disciples yesterday, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled” because though he was going away, he would bring them to His Father’s house. But, Thomas, brings up a good question: “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus’ answer is profound and a claim so bold, either it must be fully believed or he must be rejected as a madman shouting preposterous claims on the street corner. He says, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” He is not a way, or a truth, or a life. He THE way AND THE truth AND THE life. There is no other way that will lead to eternal life. There is no truth that doesn’t find its basis in Him. There is no source of life that exists outside of His lifesource. The way isn’t a path, it’s a person. The truth isn’t based on the words of a constitution, it’s based in the mind of a living Lord. Life isn’t sourced in the Sun or Water; it is sourced in an everlasting living God.
It’s been said that “clarity is kindness”. Jesus is incredibly clear. He doesn’t leave any room for questioning what He meant. He says that everything is based in Him. All that’s left to decide is do we believe Him?
- What difference does it make that everything about life and the universe is grounded in a Person?
- What circumstance or truth are you finding it hard to trust Jesus right now? Talk to Him about that?
