Bible Reading (read these verses three times slowly)
Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
Reflection & Questions
Mark often includes stories at strategic times in his gospel. When Jesus first talks about His death and resurrection, Mark includes a story about healing a blind man in two stages. That was to show that the disciples got some of who Jesus was, but not all (read that here). They needed more sight.
Here once again after talking about His suffering, Mark includes another story of a man receiving sight. This time the man is healed all at once. As if to say, the picture is now complete of who Jesus is and why He has come.
As we finish Mark 10, Mark wants us to have the full spiritual sight that Jesus is the Son of God, who came to save us through His death and resurrection. His book has laid out all the evidence, are we ready to fully accept it? If so, what are we going to do about it?
The beautiful part about this healing of Bartimaeus is Jesus’ question: What do you want me to do for you? Jesus is the Son of God, the Lord of all, but He is also a Servant King. He listens and responds to us.
- Have you accepted that Jesus is the Son of God, come to save us through His death and resurrection? If you have accepted that, are there areas of your life that don’t reflect that?
- What do you want Jesus to do for you?
Pray
Imagine for a moment, Jesus walking up to you and asking, “What do you want me to do for you?” Talk to him in response to that.
Worship Song
In response to today’s reading, you could use this song to worship Jesus.

Reflection and Questions
Throughout the book of Mark (you know, the book in the Bible we’ve been reading for 10 weeks?), we get to see Mark tell a lot of stories at verrrrry specific times in his book. When Jesus first talks about His death and resurrection, Mark tells the story about healing a blind man in two steps. The steps were to show that the disciples understood some of who Jesus was, but not all (read that here). They still needed to see Jesus more to totally understand it all!
In our reading today, Jesus talks about suffering again, and Mark includes another story of a man receiving sight. This time the man is healed all at once, no two steps this time!

- Have you made the decision to follow Jesus in your life? If you have, is it easy or hard to keep following Jesus? If you haven’t, maybe this is a good time to talk about it with your parents or someone you trust at church!
Prayer
Pray and thank Jesus for letting us know who He is through the Bible, and ask for help in following Him in your life!

Any of you wear glasses? If you do, then you know the value of putting on a pair of glasses and being able to see the words on the page clearer or to be able to read signs while in the car. Being able to see something clearly is obviously extremely helpful in life! Mark often includes stories at strategic times in his gospel. When Jesus first talks about His death and resurrection, Mark includes a story about healing a blind man in two stages.
