Mixtapes Reading | Week 2 | Day 1
Prayer
As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Ask Him to teach you more about Himself today.
Bible Reading: Psalm 15
Read these verses three times slowly.
Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
Who may live on your holy mountain?
The one whose walk is blameless,
who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from their heart;
whose tongue utters no slander,
who does no wrong to a neighbor,
and casts no slur on others;
who despises a vile person
but honors those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath even when it hurts,
and does not change their mind;
who lends money to the poor without interest;
who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
Whoever does these things
will never be shaken.
Reflection & Questions
This week in our Mixtapes readings we will be looking at Psalms that have to do with following God. We begin with Psalm 15, which the sermon focused on. This psalm asks who God invites into his presence – and it presents a very high bar. It’s not an exhaustive list, but it definitely gives a clear picture.
The psalm lays out five characteristics of the one who dwells with God.
- They have integrity (“walk is blameless…does what is righteous”)
- They use words wisely (“speaks truth…no slander..casts no slur”)
- They are loyal (“despises a vile person…honors those who fear the Lord”)
- They deal honorably (“keeps an oath when it hurts…does not change mind…lends…without interest…does not accept a bribe”)
- They are steadfast (“will never be shaken”)
In sum, these characteristics deal with our heart, our words and our actions. The goal of a Christian should be to please the Lord in each of these areas.
- How does this psalm challenge you today?
- Talk to God about this psalm and ask Him to search your heart. Listen for what He wants to bring to your attention.
