Mixtapes Reading | Week 5 | Day 1

Prayer

As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Ask Him to teach you more about Himself today.

Bible Reading: Psalm 121

Read these verses three times slowly.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

“Psalms of Ascent” are reminders … songs while on one of the 3 annual religious pilgrimages to Jerusalem, for the faithful to sing along the way.

Over my years of life I climbed certain peaks and trails. Memories include Masada, Half Dome, and a number of mountain peaks and passes. Masada and Half Dome motivated me by excitement and wonder of the iconic steps I was taking along the way. Bedrock truths about the Lord swirled through my mind. Verses within the 15 Psalms of Ascent were encouraging reminders to the people of God … to reflect upon and be motivated by.

Psalm 121:1-87 describes the One who provides help to us in life … “the Maker of heaven and earth!” He tends to the very steps we take, never tiring, providing for our heart’s needs, watching over us – both now and forevermore!

Ask the Lord if you are “looking to Him,” or are you saying, “Look at me!” Think about the difference between “looking at you” versus “watching over you.” Ask Him to deepen your wonder about Him. Spend a few moments to re-read the ending of verse 8, and how secure “forevermore” is.
