Unashamed Reading Plan | Week 8 | Day 5
Prayer
As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Thank Jesus that he came to save you!
Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Read these verses three times slowly.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
Reflection & Questions
We have been discovering this week the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit in us. We end with a simple reading from 1 Corinthians that is quite appropriate given the profoundness of what we have discovered.
Paul says that our bodies are “temples of the Holy Spirit.” In other words, not only does the Holy Spirit live in our bodies, but our bodies are to be used as a place of worship. God dwells in us! In our bodies. This came about not because of what we have done, but because of what he has done. We “were bought at a price” and so we are “not [our] own.”
What then are we to do? “Therefore honor God with your bodies.” How we treat our bodies must be considered. How we eat, drink and exercise. Our sexuality. Our bodies are not ours now, they were bought by Jesus. They are indwelled by God’s Holy Spirit. We are to be good managers of our physical beings, because it is the home of the Spirit.
- Have you thought before that your body doesn’t belong to you, but to Christ? What difference does it make?
- How are you treating your body? What are some steps you need to take to treat it better?
Prayer
Talk to God in response to the reading today.
Worship Song
You might use this song today to worship Jesus today:
Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Read these verses three times slowly.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
Reflection & Questions
Well this is an interesting way to look at your body. Your body is a temple! When you think of a temple, what do you imagine? Perhaps a beautiful building where people go to worship and pray to God. It’s probably clean and full of light and people take good care of it.
Paul says that our bodies are “temples of the Holy Spirit.” This means that the Holy Spirit of God is living within us. When God gave His son to die on the cross for us, He purchased all of us as His own, even our bodies. We have become a home for the Holy Spirit.
So how are we to treat our bodies, the temple where God lives? The scripture says, “Therefore honor God with your bodies.” We need to think about how we treat our bodies and how we display our bodies to others. This includes what we eat, drink, and exercise. We should use our bodies as a way to glorify God – it’s where He lives so we should take good care of it!
- Have you ever thought about your body being a place where God lives? Does that make you think a little differently about how you should take care of your body?
Pray
Ask God to show you some ways that you could take better care of your body, His temple.
