As you come to spend time with Jesus, calm your mind and body until you feel fully present. Thank Jesus that he came to save you!
Bible Reading: Revelation 21:1-5
Read these verses three times slowly.
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Reflection & Questions
By Ken Mullette
I have been a car enthusiast since childhood. I would love to watch my dad and his friends take an old, beat-up, pile of junk of a car and turn it into a sleek, clean, brand new-looking car. The entire process was often documented through photos, yet the vision for the final result was always in mind at the beginning. My dad and his friends knew what people expected in a restored car and could modify components that would surpass expectations.
This passage from the Bible’s final book, Revelation, describes a vision of a new and hopeful future. There will be a complete renewal or transformation of the world as we know it. The old world, with its problems and difficulties, will be replaced by something entirely new and better. In this new existence, God will be directly present with humanity, and there will be a close, personal relationship between God and people.
God will live among people and make everything new! In this new reality, all the old troubles will be gone. There will be no more suffering, sadness, or death. Everything that causes pain or grief will be eliminated, and there will be a state of complete peace and happiness. Everything is going to be perfect and as it was always intended to be. It will be far beyond all our expectations.
- How does the promise that God will “wipe every tear from their eyes” influence your understanding of grief and pain?
- In what ways can a world where “there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain” inspire you to support others?

Reflection & Questions
The book of Revelation is the last book of the Bible. It was written by John and it is all about what the future of the world will look like when Jesus returns again. Today’s particular set of verses describes a vision of a new and hopeful future. It will be completely different from the world we are living in today.
We are living in the old world, which has all kinds of problems and difficulties. In the new world, they will be replaced by something new and better. Not only will the world be better, but we will have a face to face relationship with God – we will be able to have an up close and personal relationship with Him!
God will live among us – can you imagine?! He will make everything new. All our old troubles will be gone, including sadness, suffering, and even death. Everything that causes pain or grief will be gone and there will be a state of complete peace and happiness. Everything is going to be perfect, even beyond our expectations!
- Think about what a perfect world would look like and even feel like to you. How would you describe it?
Pray
Thank God that He has given us the promise of a perfect world in the future.
